XP - ONCE A MONTH, DO A SCANDISK AND DEFRAG

Always do scandisk first

Click on My Computer

Click ONCE on the C drive

RIGHT click your mouse

Propertieis

Tools

Check Now

Put a check mark in both boxes and Start

(the PC will say it can’t do this now, do you want to do it when you restart – say YES)

Shut down your PC completely

Wait a minute or so

Turn on PC

It will go into a DOS screen for about 45 min.

When it returns to your desktop – you should then do a DEFRAG

Click on My Computer

Click ONCE on the C drive

RIGHT click your mouse

Propertieis

Tools

Defragment Now

Action – Defragment

This will take 45min or more.

Do NOT use your computer while Defrag is running.
